Embracing the Joy of Play
As we prepare to launch into exciting week of Coastal Adventures Camp at our church, we’re getting ready to pack the vans, load up the sunscreen, gather the fishing poles, and roll out for field trips that celebrate all that summer along the coast has to offer—sunny days on the beach, the thrill of water slides, the quiet patience of fishing, and the wonder of exploring local museums and hidden gems in our community.
But beneath all the adventure, there is something even more profound happening: we’re entering into the holy and healing rhythm of play.
In our fast-paced world, it's easy to overlook the spiritual value of play. But when we pause and reflect, many of our most sacred memories are rooted in it—those unstructured hours of laughter with friends, the games that brought us joy, the curiosity that led us to explore the world more deeply. Play is not just for children. It's a gift from God—a way to refuel, to be restored, to connect with others, and to rediscover who we are.
Whether we're signing songs of praise in opening worship, diving into our Bible study theme for the day, chasing waves, learning to cast a fishing line, or sharing a snack after a museum scavenger hunt, we're inviting our campers to experience joy in its purest form. And in doing so, we're creating space for transformation.
We believe play awakens our senses—warm sand between our toes, the sound of seagulls overhead, the feeling of cool water on a hot day. These are not just simple pleasures; they are sacred invitations to be fully present, fully alive. They invite us to wonder: What makes me feel most like me? Where do I feel God’s delight the most?
As we step into this summer together, it beckons us to consider these questions. To reflect on our own cherished memories of play. What did they stir in your soul? What laughter or lightness do you still carry from them? How might God be calling you to play again?
Maybe it's taking time to explore nature with your family. Maybe it’s simply allowing yourself space to rest, laugh, and be renewed. However it looks, we pray you find yourself caught up in the joy of discovery and community—because those are the moments where God loves to meet us.
So let the countdown begin. The beach is calling. The water slides await. And the Spirit is already at work in every splash, every laugh, every step of this adventure.
Let’s play.
